Head of Communications, Disruptive Retail Investment Business - London - City

To support the continuing expansion of the business, they are looking to grow the communications function with the hire of Head of Communications for the Retail Investment arm. This individual will be a fearless self-starter, willing to take on projects and run with them; an ideas person who always has an ear to the ground and a keen eye for an opportunity.

Reporting into the Group Head of Corporate Communications, you will have an excellent mentor, but the freedom to develop the role and make it your own. This is a great opportunity for an ambitious PR professional to gain in-house experience and expand their skills set, as there is the added benefit of being part of a team delivering integrated communications campaigns across marketing, media and public affairs.


This role will lead the firm’s Investments media and broader corporate communications strategy, but also be part of the overall group comms function. It will involve working closely with Investments’ marketing team. Tasks will include:

  • Building and protecting the business’ brand
  • Providing strategic counsel and support across the business and demonstrating how PR can add value and drive business outcomes
  • Delivering excellent press office services to journalists and internal stakeholders
  • Managing crisis and issues communications
  • Identifying reputational risks to the business to ensure messaging is managed effectively across all communication channels
  • Thinking creatively about how to make the business relevant to its target press, as well as maintaining a share of voice in market leading product areas 
  • Liaison with Group Marketing to ensure consistency of company-wide communication


Required Experience and Skills

  • Extensive agency/in-house communications experience; devising and implementing communications goals, strategies and tactical PR campaigns and programmes that advance business goals and strengthen corporate reputation
  • Ability to set a strategic course for PR and communications alongside an overall brand position. Able to think strategically, but stay on top of tactical execution.
  • An understanding of an integrated communications approach, considering all audiences and communications channels
  • Ability to articulate key messages, write copy and guide senior managers to deliver on message press and influencer coverage
  • Ability to deal with people at all levels and demonstrable stakeholder management skills
  • Extensive exposure to delivering communications counsel to internal stakeholders/clients on both short- and long-term challenges and opportunities, ensuring they are strategically employed in the public domain
  • Able to excel in a fast paced, challenging environment, multi-tasking, working autonomously as well as enjoying being a team player
  • Excellent media relations skills and press office management. A strong contact book of national personal finance, investment and adviser trade press
  • Capable of working to a high quality level under pressure; an exceptional ability to multi task and meticulous attention to detail
  • Able to manage budgets and deliver clear, results-focused reports
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team, and willingness to 'pitch in' as required in a rapidly growing organisation
